The issue:
Our eyes and surrounding skin take a lot of wear, from withstanding natures harshest elements (dryness, cold, to sun/heat) to just using them in our day-to-day life. Our eyes form a large part of our facial expressions; a lot can be told by reading someones eyes - what happens around our eyes when we wince in pain, frown, cry, are surprised or ecstatic? Imagine being stressed, do you clench your eyes closed and put your hands to your face to rub?
Simply put, the skin around our eyes take a lot of beating in a lifetime!
Treatment:
The best natural advise to give on reducing wrinkles and eye bags is to be proactive in the area of prevention! The concept is very similar to that of weight - yes - it is way easier to gain to than to lose! Thus, the best approach to addressing eye bags and wrinkles, is to take measures to ensure they do not becomes prevalent! To be proactive in prevention, we can:
Wear sunglasses: This physically prevents (wrinkle causing) squinting, get yourself a good quality pair that will block the UV rays to protect your eye and surrounding eye tissue. Wear the ones with big lenses, those will block out UV rays to the eyes and skin. The sun alone, can do a lot of damage, even through clouds. One thing we recommend is to always spend and get a good brand name quality pair of polarized shades from an authorized retailer, don't skimp here!
Use FACE cream, not body lotion: This seems straight forward, however too many people try use body lotion for the face - or worse yet bar soap! The facial skin requirements are different when it comes to ingredients - using creams that are not gentle/moisturizing can really dry out the skin. If you are trying to look for an general cream - one all in one that is recommended is the Nivia Soft All purpose cream with - Jojoba and Vitamin E.
Use Sunscreen: Ensure the skin around your eyes are always protected with or without sunglasses. An easy way is to check your makeup for a good SPF rating.
Manage your emotions A little bit of stress, anger, and anxiety is actually healthy for us. The key thing is to not let it get to the point you are visibly upset all the time or letting it get to a point you can't sleep well (see above point). Feeling too much stress not only detrimental for your skin, but can lead to some very serious health consequences, so take care and ensure you do what you need for yourself to to alleviate/address stress-points. Easier said then done, I know.
Get away and get time for yourself, plan for a walk/jog or quiet time to regenerate. Commit yourself to something that makes you get your mind at ease, every day. Try look into yoga online, or breathing techniques to help you when you are experiencing anxiety!
Get 7-8 hours of rest Daily: Remember the days of cramming for exams, too many consecutive days of overtime, or too many days of late night social events. Your body needs consistent rest, weekend catchup does not work. Consistent rest will help reduce the dark circles and eye bags. If you are not getting enough sleep, try change your lifestyle and for 3 weeks - aim for 8 hours each night. You will see a difference!
> Home Remedies:
Whether you are far gone past the stage of prevention, or you want to start trying something that will help reduce wrinkles and eye bags going forward. Here are three things you can do from the comfort of your own home to help reduce any signs of eye bag/puffiness:
Cool Green Tea: Green tea contains caffeine which acts to provide antioxidants, combining it with a cool affect can help to increase the blood flow to your skin. It is said that caffeine constricts the blood vessels within this sensitive tissue areas, aiding in reducing puffiness / inflammation. All you need is two green tea bags, boil them, squeeze out the excess tea, put the tea bags in the fridge or freezer to chill, lie down and place a tea bag on each eye for 15-20 mins. Aim for non GMO / Organic teas.
Sleeping position: Try to elevate your head a few inches with an extra pillow when you sleep. Having your head tilted will promote the flow liquid away from the bottom area of the eyes (no pooling) which will help keep skin firm over time.
Ice Cube Treatment: Slow down the blood circulation around your eyes, and when it warms up you will speed up the metabolic rate, stimulate collagen to tighten your skin. In addition, the freezing cold will make your pores close and reduce swelling. Simply take a ice cube and wrap a towel around it to hold it, glide the ice cube under your eyes and around your eyes for at least 10 minutes per side, switching between sides. Work to your own tolerance level and stop if there is any type of discomfort. If ice is too messy, check out our stainless steel freezer safe ice globes!
